Post-Session: Nifty holds 16,800, Sensex dips 188 pts day ahead of RBI policy

Equity markets settled lower after a volatile day on Thursday, the day of the monthly F&O (derivatives) expiry, as global cues remained unsupportive.



ITC, Dr Reddy's Labs, Tata Steel, Sun Pharma, M&M, NTPC, and Nestle India were the top large-cap winners, while Abbott India, Jindal Steel, Escorts, tata Chemicals, SPARC, PVR, Suzlon Energy, and Allcargo Losgistics surged in the broader market space.



On the flipside, Asian Paints, Tech M, Wipro, TCS, Titan, Kotak Bank, Dr Lal Path Labs, Vodafone Idea, Deepak Nitrite, Zendar Technologies, and Intellect Design Arena tumbled in trade today.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 56409.96 down by -188.32 points or by -0.33 % and then NSE Nifty was at 16818.1 down by -40.5 points or by -0.24 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 57166.14 and intraday low of 56314.05 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 17026.05 and intraday low of 16788.6



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 333.05,+2.51%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 4359.20,+2.16%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 96.85,+1.68%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 930.80,+1.38%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 19080.60,+1.17%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 3384.80,-5.22%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1010.50,-1.86%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 2531.85,-1.69%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1765.00,-1.49%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 7104.20,-1.36%), among others.



Metal index was at 17548.61 up by 263.44 points or by 1.52%. Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 418.30,+3.78%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 371.40,+3.01%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 125.15,+2.41%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 96.85,+1.68%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 213.55,+1.38%),.



Power index was at 4658.68 down by -61.59 points or by -1.3%. Adani Transmission Ltd. (Rs. 3413.60,-5.25%), Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 481.50,-2.49%), Adani Green Energy Ltd. (Rs. 2004.50,-2.25%), NHPC Ltd. (Rs. 36.05,-1.23%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 212.25,-0.75%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3810 , shares advanced were 1999 while 1645 shares declined and 166 were unchanged.
