Sensex sinks 382 pts, Nifty near 18,000; auto, metals buck trend

Frontline indices started lower on Wednesday as investors gear up for the monthly F&O expiry later today. The S&P BSE Sensex, which fell 100 points in opening deals, extended fall to over 300 points.



At 9:50 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 60596.34 down by -382.41 points or by -0.63 % and then NSE Nifty was at 18017.2 down by -101.1 points or by -0.56 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 60899.21 and intraday low of 60596.34 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 18100.6 and intraday low of 18016.25



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 121.35,+0.83%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2612.50,+0.54%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 8732.70,+0.39%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1327.05,+0.27%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 582.90,-1.93%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 6698.75,-1.71%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1194.20,-1.50%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 2344.50,-1.14%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1059.35,-1.08%), among others.



Metal index was at 21472.13 up by 51.22 points or by 0.24%. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 490.00,+1.19%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 121.35,+0.83%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 331.50,+0.55%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 600.00,+0.19%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 1157.45,+0.13%),.



Realty index was at 3310.88 down by -43.52 points or by -1.3%. DLF Ltd. (Rs. 357.00,-2.23%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1193.85,-1.84%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 812.45,-1.64%), Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 71.60,-1.38%), Brigade Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 453.85,-1.21%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3087 , shares advanced were 1104 while 1858 shares declined and 125 were unchanged.
