Sensex, Nifty edge lower; PSU, Bankex weigh

The domestic equity benchmarks edged lower during the morning session, dragged down by significant selling in key index pivotals. The Nifty traded tad below the 18,000 level. Barring autos, shares across sectors declined with oil & gas, banks, financials and pharma stocks sliding the most.



At 10:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 60342.42 down by -636.33 points or by -1.04 % and then NSE Nifty was at 17931.3 down by -187 points or by -1.03 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 60899.21 and intraday low of 60324.77 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 18100.6 and intraday low of 17930.55



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 8766.15,+0.78%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2607.60,+0.35%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 120.55,+0.17%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 578.55,-2.66%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1186.20,-2.16%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 2165.00,-1.91%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1664.50,-1.82%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 6692.35,-1.81%), among others.



Metal index was at 21371.63 up by -49.28 points or by -0.23%. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 487.65,+0.70%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 120.60,+0.21%),.



PSU index was at 9899.22 down by -181.2 points or by -1.8%. Ircon International Ltd. (Rs. 57.35,-4.73%), Bank of Baroda (Rs. 170.40,-4.24%), Power Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 143.55,-3.85%), Bank of India (Rs. 82.65,-3.78%), Canara Bank (Rs. 309.60,-3.16%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3425 , shares advanced were 861 while 2431 shares declined and 133 were unchanged.
