Triveni Turbines and IISc Inaugurate Centre of Excellence to Advance Energy Transition Research

Triveni Turbine Limited (TTL) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, have jointly inaugurated the Triveni Turbines Centre of Excellence, a new research facility dedicated to advancing energy transition technologies and turbomachinery innovation. TTL, a leading provider of industrial heat and power solutions and decentralized steam-based renewable turbines up to 100 MW, said the centre marks a major milestone in its long-standing collaboration with IISc.

The Centre of Excellence aims to develop high-efficiency, sustainable systems that enhance industrial process performance, improve energy efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions. It builds on previous collaborations between TTL and IISc, including pioneering work on CO2 heat pump systems for energy-efficient industrial applications.

In conjunction with the inauguration, IISc has also established the Dhruv Manmohan Sawhney Turbomachinery Chair, which will support fundamental and applied research in areas such as thermal energy, energy transition technologies, and next-generation sustainable systems. The chair is intended to foster innovation and nurture scientific talent in turbomachinery.

TTL Chairman and Managing Director Dhruv M. Sawhney said the new centre will act as a catalyst for breakthroughs in sustainable energy technologies while helping develop future engineering talent. IISc Director Prof. G. Rangarajan welcomed the deepened partnership, noting that the new centre and professorship will drive cutting-edge research in turbomachinery and clean technologies.

Equipped with advanced testing and research infrastructure, the Centre of Excellence will bring together engineers and scientists to focus on materials innovation, performance optimisation, and sustainable design—further reinforcing TTL’s commitment to engineering excellence and India’s sustainable industrial development.
