India has been designated as the Country of the Year at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for organic products, scheduled to be held from February 10–13, 2026, in Nuremberg, Germany.
India’s participation at the event is being organised by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, with a strong and high-visibility presence aimed at showcasing the country’s rich agricultural heritage and its growing stature as a global supplier of organic products.
BIOFACH Germany is the world’s largest and most influential exhibition exclusively focused on organic food and agriculture. APEDA has been participating in the event for over a decade, maintaining a consistent and impactful presence.
India’s participation at BIOFACH 2026 represents a significant scale-up from previous editions, reflecting the rapid expansion of Indian organic exports, rising global demand for organic produce, and increased participation from exporters, associations, and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs). After a gap of 14 years, India’s organic farming sector is set to take centre stage once again at the prestigious global platform.
The India Country Pavilion, set up by APEDA, will cover 1,074 square metres and host 67 co-exhibitors, including organic exporters, FPOs, cooperatives, organic laboratories, state government bodies, and commodity boards. The pavilion will showcase a diverse range of organic products such as rice, oilseeds, herbs, spices, pulses, cashew, ginger, turmeric, large cardamom, cinnamon, mango pur‚e, and essential oils.
Exhibitors from over 20 States and Union Territories—including Assam, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand—will participate, highlighting India’s regional diversity and growing engagement in global organic trade.
Visitors to the India Pavilion will also experience curated food tastings, including live sampling of aromatic biryani prepared with premium organic basmati rice and spices. Five GI-tagged rice varieties—Indrayani, Navara, Gobindbhog, Red Rice, and Chak Hao (Black Rice)—will be served to showcase India’s heritage grains.
APEDA has planned extensive branding and high-impact promotional activities across key locations at the Nuremberg Messe Exhibition Centre, reinforcing India’s designation as Country of the Year.
With global focus increasingly shifting toward sustainability and environmentally responsible consumption, India’s recognition at BIOFACH 2026 strengthens its position as a global leader in organic agriculture. APEDA continues to support Indian exporters through targeted initiatives aimed at enhancing global competitiveness and positioning India as the organic food basket of the world.
