Sensex up 196 pts, Nifty tests 9,100

Indian equities opened in the green on Thursday amid broad-based buying. Bajaj Auto surged over 5 per cent, after the firm's Q4FY20 results beat Street expectations. HDFC Bank, Asian Paints, and Nestle India, up 1 per cent each, were other top gainers. On the downside, M&M, ITC, and NTPC were the top losers on the Sensex.



Aviation stocks, IndiGo and SpiceJet, surged 8 per cent and 5 per cent, respectively in the opening deals after the government announced that domestic airline operations would resume on May 25, more than two months after all flights were halted.



At 9:38 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 31015.43 up by 196.82 points or by 0.64 % and then NSE Nifty was at 9108.1 up by 41.55 points or by 0.46 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 31029.7 and intraday low of 30765.32 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 9120.05 and intraday low of 9056.1



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2701.45,+5.61%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2083.05,+2.95%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 880.65,+2.64%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1530.00,+1.97%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1184.05,+1.79%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 91.25,-1.78%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 77.10,-1.22%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 173.65,-1.19%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 514.40,-0.95%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 157.85,-0.47%), among others.



Auto index was at 12978.78 up by 268.81 points or by 2.11%. Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2693.10,+5.28%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2091.00,+3.34%), TVS Motor Company Ltd. (Rs. 319.25,+3.33%), Exide Industries Ltd. (Rs. 154.25,+3.18%), Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (Rs. 993.50,+2.54%),.



Power index was at 1432.64 down by -10.76 points or by -0.75%. Adani Transmission Ltd. (Rs. 179.80,-2.42%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 91.20,-1.83%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 157.95,-0.41%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 25.85,-0.39%), Adani Power Ltd. (Rs. 34.45,-0.29%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1407 , shares advanced were 954 while 381 shares declined and 72 were unchanged.
