BMW Industries Limited (BMWIL) has commissioned its Colour Coating line at its Greenfield Downstream Steel Complex in Bokaro, Jharkhand, marking the start of the first phase of the project and a key step in its move towards becoming an integrated, value-added downstream steel producer.
The Bokaro complex is being developed at a total project cost of Rs 803 crore and will include capacities for Cold Rolled Full Hard (CRFH), Galvanized/ Galvalume/ ZAM (GA/GI/ZAM) and Colour Coated steel. The facility is expected to enable BMWIL to offer a broader range of value-added coated steel products.
As of June 30, 2026, the company had deployed Rs 341.6 crore towards the project, comprising Rs 139.2 crore from internal accruals and Rs 202.4 crore through debt drawdown. Of this amount, around Rs 60 crore had been capitalised towards the Colour Coating line, which was commissioned on October 5, 2026.
Commenting on the development, BMW Industries Chairman Ram Gopal Bansal said the commissioning represents the first major step in the company's greenfield expansion and its transition from a conversion-led business to an integrated downstream steel player.
He added that the Bokaro facility will enable BMWIL to manage the value chain from hot-rolled to coated steel products and provide customers with Galvanized, Galvalume, ZAM and Colour Coated offerings. The company also expects the project to diversify its product portfolio and customer base.
Bansal said favourable industry trends for value-added and coated steel, along with supportive government policies and disciplined capital deployment, would support the company's focus on ramping up the facility and generating long-term value for stakeholders.
