For all the crops that were damaged as a result of the recent downpours and floods, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy announced a scale of compensation of Rs 6,000 a hectare against Rs 4,500 that was announced previously.
This was announced by the Chief Minister on the last day of the winter session of the Assembly which was a witness to the uproarious scenes and suspension of 63 TDP MLAs earlier.
Meanwhile, rather than taking up Government agenda, they were demanding a debate on the crop loss and compensation related issues.
The Chief Minister said that he would have favored a much bigger compensation package. He said this in response to the extended 3 day debate, complete with adjournments on the problems of the farm sector.
Moreover, he added that this was the most that the Government could do under the present scenario while he has promised of a larger compensation later if possible by the Government.
The Rs 6,000 per hectare compensation will mean a total outgo of about Rs 910 crore to the farm community that also includes Rs 310 crore towards interest waiver.
