Railways earns freight revenue of nearly Rs 96,000 crore so far this fiscal

On Wednesday, the Indian Railways reported a significant increase in its freight transportation and revenue figures for the period between April and October this year, as compared to the same period last year. The railway system transported 887.25 metric tonnes of freight, marking a notable growth of 31.61 MT. The freight revenue also saw a substantial boost, with earnings totaling Rs 95,929.30 crore during this period, as opposed to Rs 92,345.27 crore in the previous year, reflecting an improvement of approximately Rs 3,584.03 crore.

In the month of October, there was a noteworthy achievement in originating freight loading, reaching 129.03 MT, compared to 118.95 MT in October of the previous year, indicating an increase of around 8.47 percent. During October this year, the freight revenue amounted to Rs 14,231.05 crore, surpassing the previous year's figure of Rs 13,353.81 crore, representing a growth of about 6.57 percent, as stated in the official announcement.
