In a major push toward cleaner energy solutions, the Ministry of Coal has signed the Coal Gasification Plant Development and Production Agreement (CGPDPA) with selected applicants under Category II of the Coal Gasification Financial Incentive Scheme. This category includes projects from both private companies and public sector undertakings.
The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Shri Sanoj Kumar Jha, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal; Shri Asheesh Kumar, OSD (Technical); and Shri B.K. Thakur, Director (Technical), Ministry of Coal.
The selected entities under Category II include:
Jindal Steel and Power Limited
New Era Cleantech Solution Private Limited
Greta Energy and Metal Private Limited
Launched on January 24, 2024, the Financial Incentive Scheme for Coal Gasification carries a total outlay of ?8,500 crore. It aims to achieve 100 million tonnes of coal gasification by 2030 by utilizing India’s vast coal reserves to foster sustainable industrial growth. The scheme encourages active participation from both public and private sectors to establish coal gasification facilities across the country.
This initiative forms a critical part of India’s clean coal strategy, aiming to minimize environmental impact, strengthen energy security, and promote economic growth through technological advancement and infrastructure development.
