DRDO Transfers Advanced Materials Technologies to Industry Partners

The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) of DRDO, Hyderabad, has transferred three advanced materials technologies to industry partners, marking a significant step in strengthening self-reliance in defence and strategic applications. At an event held on August 30, 2025, DRDO Chairman and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, Dr. Samir V Kamat, handed over the Licensing Agreements for Transfer of Technology (LAToT) to the respective companies.

BHEL, Jagdishpur, received technology for manufacturing high-strength radomes to support missile systems; JSPL, Angul, was transferred the know-how for producing DMR-1700 steel sheets and plates with ultrahigh strength and toughness for defence use; and BSP, Bhilai, SAIL, acquired the technology for DMR 249A HSLA steel plates, designed to meet stringent naval construction requirements.

Dr. Kamat lauded DMRL’s role in driving innovation and fostering industry-research collaboration to advance indigenous capabilities. The transfer is expected to accelerate scaling and deployment of these materials across strategic sectors.

In addition, DMRL signed an MoU with the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of Civil Aviation to leverage its expertise and facilities in supporting aviation safety investigations. Senior DRDO officials, including DG (Naval Systems & Materials) Dr. RV Hara Prasad, DG (Resource & Management) Dr. Manu Korulla, and DMRL Director Dr. R. Balamuralikrishnan, attended the event.
