RBI Fines Dahanu Road Janata Co-op Bank Rs 1 Lakh for SAF Norm Violations

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), through an order dated September 1, 2025, has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1 lakh on Dahanu Road Janata Co-operative Bank Ltd., Dahanu Road, Maharashtra, for non-compliance with directives issued under the Supervisory Action Framework (SAF).

The penalty follows an RBI inspection of the bank’s financials as of March 31, 2024. After reviewing supervisory findings, related correspondence, and the bank’s submissions, RBI concluded that the bank failed to reduce both single and group borrower exposure limits by 25% of the applicable regulatory cap for certain fresh loans and advances, in violation of SAF guidelines.

RBI clarified that the action stems from regulatory compliance deficiencies and does not affect the validity of customer transactions or agreements. The penalty is without prejudice to any further supervisory action that may be taken against the bank.
