Reliance and Meta partner to develop AI-Focused data centre in Gujarat

Reliance Industries Limited has announced a partnership with Meta to develop a state-of-the-art AI-enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking a significant step in strengthening India's digital and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Under the agreement, Reliance will build a 168 MW data centre with an option for future expansion. The facility is expected to be operational within the next two years and will be the first built-to-suit data centre capacity developed in India specifically for Meta.

Meta will lease capacity from the facility to support its global infrastructure requirements, including AI computing workloads and core business operations. The project highlights India's growing importance as a global hub for digital infrastructure and AI development.

Reliance will provide end-to-end services for the project, covering design, construction, utility management, renewable energy supply, network connectivity, and ongoing operations. This positions the company as a comprehensive infrastructure partner for hyperscale AI deployments in India.

The Jamnagar location offers several strategic advantages, including access to renewable energy, water resources, proximity to western submarine cable landing stations, and connectivity through Jio's extensive fibre network. The facility will be powered by renewable energy and utilize desalinated seawater for cooling, reflecting the sustainability commitments of both companies.

The partnership aligns with the Government of India's vision of positioning the country as a major destination for AI infrastructure investments and treating data centres as strategic national infrastructure.

Commenting on the development, Mukesh D. Ambani said the collaboration marks a transformative moment for India's digital ecosystem. He noted that developing India's first built-to-suit data centre for a global technology leader of Meta's scale demonstrates the country's readiness to play a leading role in the global AI revolution. He added that Jamnagar is poised to emerge as a major hub for hyperscale AI computing, serving both Indian and global markets.
