The rupee weakened for the seventh consecutive session, falling 7 paise to 95.95 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday, weighed down by a stronger greenback overseas and foreign fund outflows.
Forex traders said the decline was partly cushioned by positive domestic equity markets, while elevated crude oil prices amid escalating US-Iran tensions continued to exert pressure on the local currency.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.89 and moved between 95.85 and 95.98 against the US dollar before settling at 95.95 (provisional), down 7 paise from the previous close.
