Sensex down 390pts, Nifty50 below 16,950

Weak foreign flows, tepid global sentiments, and hopes of tighter monetary policy drove domestic equity markets lower on Wednesday morning.



The muted risk appetite among investors also kept broader markets in negative territory as Nifty MidCap 100 and Nifty SmallCap 100 indices slipped in the range of 0.6 to 0.7 per cent.



At 9:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 56716.8 down by -390.72 points or by -0.68 % and then NSE Nifty was at 16879.2 down by -128.2 points or by -0.75 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 56819.49 and intraday low of 56498.72 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 16895.1 and intraday low of 16825.4



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 906.05,+1.02%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1245.30,+0.77%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 205.80,+0.44%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 4199.20,+0.41%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 398.70,+0.14%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1136.85,-2.37%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 156.00,-1.95%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 2253.25,-1.61%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 725.50,-1.60%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2360.00,-1.48%), among others.

Auto index was at 28818.1 up by 48.03 points or by 0.17%. Tube Investments of India Ltd. (Rs. 2666.90,+3.48%), UNO Minda Ltd. (Rs. 554.55,+2.43%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1245.30,+0.77%), MRF Ltd. (Rs. 80210.75,+0.57%), Balkrishna Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1876.70,+0.43%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3001 , shares advanced were 1124 while 1742 shares declined and 135 were unchanged.
