Post-Session: Sensex tanks 874 points, Nifty below 17,650

The Indian benchmark indices extended the fall for the second consecutive session and lost 1.5 percent on January 27 amid selling seen across sectors, barring pharma and auto, with Adani Group stocks coming under huge selling pressure again.



The market started on a negative note and extended the selling as the day progressed, with the Sensex and the Nifty breaking 59,000 and 17,500, intraday. Last-hour buying helped them reduce losses.



The market was also under pressure amid a decline in Adani group stocks on a report by short-sellers Hindenburg Research that flagged debut concerns and made allegations of stock manipulation, charges which have been denied by the company.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 59330.9 down by -874.16 points or by -1.45 % and then NSE Nifty was at 17604.35 down by -287.6 points or by -1.61 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 60166.9 and intraday low of 58974.7 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 17884.75 and intraday low of 17493.55



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 445.55,+6.34%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 345.65,+1.77%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1320.60,+0.71%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 6732.05,+0.41%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 166.30,+0.21%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were State Bank of India (Rs. 540.20,-5.03%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 817.55,-4.41%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1116.60,-3.43%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 873.25,-2.07%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1714.00,-2.03%), among others.



Auto index was at 29919.3 up by 309.65 points or by 1.05%. Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 445.55,+6.34%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 3934.00,+5.83%), Tube Investments of India Ltd. (Rs. 2662.85,+3.40%), Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 149.25,+2.16%), TVS Motor Company Ltd. (Rs. 1055.00,+1.71%),.



Power index was at 4049.52 down by -294.84 points or by -6.79%. Adani Green Energy Ltd. (Rs. 1484.50,-19.99%), Adani Transmission Ltd. (Rs. 2009.70,-19.99%), Adani Power Ltd. (Rs. 248.05,-5.00%), ABB India Ltd. (Rs. 2802.85,-2.50%), JSW Energy Ltd. (Rs. 236.60,-2.07%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3878 , shares advanced were 980 while 2775 shares declined and 123 were unchanged.
