Post Session: Sensex ended marginally higher, Nifty above 20,100; Pharma stocks shine

Benchmark indices ended marginally higher in the volatile session on November 30 as the monthly F&O expiry and assembly exit polls due after market hours kept investors on the edge. Broader indices BSE SmallCap and MidCap posted sharp outperformance, closing 1 per cent and 0.8 per cent higher, respectively.



Overseas, China's Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.26 percent to finish trading at 3,029.67. The day's trading ranged between 3,030.91 and 3,013.77. The Japanese benchmark Nikkei 225 gained 165 points or 0.50 percent to end trading at 33,260.14.



Meanwhile, continued increase by the price of crude oil came as traders look ahead to Thursday's meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and their allies. News of supply disruption caused by a storm in the Black Sea also contributed to the extended surge in oil prices.



Indian rupee ended marginally lower at 83.39 per dollar on Thursday against Wednesday's close of 83.32.



On the corporate front, shares of Tata Technologies closed at Rs 1,326, which is 165 per cent higher against the issue price of Rs 500. Gandhar Oil Refinery listed at a premium of 75 per cent and closed 79 per cent higher at Rs 302 versus the issue price of Rs 169 per share.



The 30-share benchmark index closed trading at 66988.44 up by 86.53 points or by 0.13 % and then NSE Nifty was at 20133.15 up by 36.55 points or by 0.18 %. During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 67069.89 and intraday low of 66610.35 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 20158.7 and intraday low of 20015.85.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 9000.65,+3.14%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1227.15,+2.19%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1014.55,+1.91%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1648.10,+1.80%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 413.25,+1.75%), among others.



IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1466.35,-1.19%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 208.95,-1.02%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 2376.40,-1.00%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 3120.00,-0.95%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 706.25,-0.83%), among others were the losers.



HCS index was at 30374.52 up by 496.42 points or by 1.66%. Gufic BioSciences Ltd. (Rs. 334.20,+11.20%), Neuland Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 5503.90,+6.59%), Wockhardt Ltd. (Rs. 345.00,+5.99%), J B Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 1494.00,+5.96%), Max Healthcare Institute Ltd. (Rs. 644.60,+5.24%),.



On the flip side, Bankex index was at 50292.51 down by -28.61 points or by -0.06%. Federal Bank Ltd. (Rs. 147.30,-1.93%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1466.35,-1.19%), Au Small Finance Bank Ltd. (Rs. 742.60,-0.84%), State Bank of India (Rs. 564.70,-0.67%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 935.50,-0.41%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4139 , shares advanced were 2054 while 1897 shares declined and 188 were unchanged.
