Pre-Session: GIFT Nifty signals subdued start amid mixed cues; Asian markets gain

Indian equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, are expected open lower on Friday amid mixed global cues. Investors are awaiting the Union Budget 2026, scheduled to be presented on Sunday, February 1, 2026.



On Thursday, the Economic Survey 2026 projected the FY26 GDP growth at 7.4 per cent and FY27 growth in the range of 6.8-7.2 per cent, underpinned by easing inflation, resilient domestic demand, and continued fiscal discipline.



On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 82566.37 up by 221.69 points or by 0.27 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25418.9 up by 76.15 points or by 0.3 %.



On the global front, Asian markets were trading higher on Friday after US President Donald Trump said he would announce his choice for the next Federal Reserve chair on Friday. Trump said the five-month search to replace Fed chair Jerome Powell, which began in September with 11 shortlisted candidates, is nearing its conclusion. Last checked, Japan's Nikkei 225 index was up 0.25 per cent, South Korea's KOSPI index rose 1.05 per cent, and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index was up 0.20 per cent.

Following a volatile session, US equity markets ended mostly lower on Thursday, dragged by declines in Microsoft and other software stocks, as investors assessed a slew of corporate earnings reports. Overnight, the S&P 500 index fell 0.13 per cent, the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.72 per cent, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.11 per cent.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 186551 with a total turnover of Rs. 31292.19 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1592426 with a total turnover of Rs. 109407.23 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 48204402 with a total turnover of Rs. 8012195.70 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 5656692 with a total turnover of Rs. 408171.66 Crore.



The FIIs on 29/01/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 26514.29 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 168.48 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 21123.98 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 434.61 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 5390.31 Crore and Rs. -266.13
