Sensex, Nifty tumble as West Asia crisis escalates

Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty tumbled on Wednesday, tracking a bearish trend in Asian markets, as the conflict in West Asia widened, driving oil prices higher.



At 10:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 78829.4 down by -1409.45 points or by -1.76 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24398.85 down by -466.85 points or by -1.88 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 78928.92 and intraday low of 78443.2 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24476.95 and intraday low of 24305.4



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1300.05,+0.92%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1881.25,+0.42%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 454.80,+0.23%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1346.95,+0.16%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3802.55,-6.49%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 198.00,-6.12%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 11955.95,-4.47%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4320.00,-4.45%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 4119.50,-3.51%), among others.



TECk index was at 15472.91 up by -12.33 points or by -0.08%. Tejas Networks Ltd. (Rs. 508.65,+4.78%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1300.05,+0.92%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1881.25,+0.42%), MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 2263.90,+0.24%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1346.95,+0.16%),.



Metal index was at 38947.91 down by -1532.86 points or by -3.79%. Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 198.00,-6.12%), Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 155.45,-6.07%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 77.54,-4.57%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1184.55,-4.31%), Jindal Stainless Ltd. (Rs. 751.25,-4.04%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4257 , shares advanced were 878 while 3201 shares declined and 178 were unchanged.
