Sensex, Nifty off day's low; Metal, Realty stocks weigh

The Indian benchmark equity indices remained under pressure on Wednesday, tracking a global sell-off in equities and a surge in oil prices triggered by escalating tensions between the US and Iran.



At 14:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 79289.98 down by -948.87 points or by -1.18 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24535 down by -330.7 points or by -1.33 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 79404.65 and intraday low of 78443.2 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24574.65 and intraday low of 24305.4



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1913.40,+2.14%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1311.20,+1.79%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1359.00,+1.06%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1753.30,+0.03%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 196.35,-6.90%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 3887.65,-4.40%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 366.00,-3.03%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4386.35,-2.99%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1886.00,-2.98%), among others.



TECk index was at 15613.14 up by 127.9 points or by 0.83%. Tejas Networks Ltd. (Rs. 502.15,+3.44%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1914.45,+2.19%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1311.20,+1.79%), MphasiS Ltd. (Rs. 2283.05,+1.09%), Persistent Systems Ltd. (Rs. 4720.80,+0.99%),.



Metal index was at 38862.96 down by -1617.81 points or by -4%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 154.00,-6.95%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 196.40,-6.88%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 77.08,-5.13%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1174.50,-5.12%), APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 2120.45,-4.56%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4571 , shares advanced were 1034 while 3356 shares declined and 181 were unchanged.
