Post Session: Sensex gains 609 pts, Nifty around 24,200; FMCG, realty shine

Indian benchmarks ended a choppy session modestly higher on Wednesday despite mixed cues from global markets and growing anxiety over surging energy prices. In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap ended 0.07 per cent down, and the Nifty SmallCap settled 0.65 per cent higher.



On the Global front, Asian stocks edged higher on Wednesday after reports suggested that Iran will likely file a revised proposal for ending the war to Pakistani mediators in the coming days.



Whereas European stocks traded lower on Wednesday, extending losses from the previous session after the Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. President Donald Trump was unhappy with Tehran's latest proposal to end the war.



On the commodities front, Brent crude futures jumped more than 3 percent to $114.78 a barrel, the highest level since June 2022 and marking an eighth straight session of gains on fears of tightened supply.



Meanwhile, Gold prices were notably lower on Wednesday as the dollar firmed, and Brent crude prices remained elevated above $114 a barrel on mounting uncertainty around global supply.



On the corporate front, shares of Vedanta Ltd gained 5 per cent to ₹775.95 on the BSE during Wednesday’s intra-day trade.



The 30-share benchmark index closed trading at 77496.36 up by 609.45 points or by 0.79 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24177.65 up by 181.95 points or by 0.76 %.



The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 77982.51 and intraday low of 77136.2 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24334.7 and intraday low of 24059.95.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 316.20,+3.86%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1453.35,+3.14%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 13255.00,+2.82%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1426.15,+2.68%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1887.95,+2.30%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4340.00,-2.36%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 401.15,-1.33%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1764.40,-0.85%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1281.00,-0.83%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2447.40,-0.62%), among others.



Realty index was at 6217.02 up by 86.92 points or by 1.42%. Lodha Developers Ltd. (Rs. 913.30,+3.41%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1434.75,+2.09%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1858.60,+1.80%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 1787.00,+1.46%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 594.00,+1.03%),.



On the flip side, CDS index was at 59705.18 down by -256.58 points or by -0.43%. Blue Star Ltd. (Rs. 1841.30,-2.59%), Voltas Ltd. (Rs. 1473.00,-2.58%), PG Electroplast Ltd. (Rs. 550.85,-2.48%), Havells India Ltd. (Rs. 1253.75,-1.43%), Amber Enterprises India Ltd. (Rs. 8090.00,-1.31%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4678 , shares advanced were 2220 while 2256 shares declined and 202 were unchanged.
