Indian benchmarks are expected to start the day on a negative note on Thursday. Trends on SGX Nifty indicate a negative opening for the broader index in India, with a 93 points loss or 0.79 percent. The Nifty futures were trading around 11,725-level on the Singaporean Exchange.

Asian share markets slipped on Thursday. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan traded either side of flat. Australia's ASX 200 was 0.5 per cent lower and Japan's Nikkei fell 1.4 per cent.

Crude oil prices declined sharply on Wednesday, extending losses to a fourth successive session, amid rising concerns about the outlook for energy demand due to the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the global economy.

On Wednesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 39888.96 down by -392.24 points or by -0.97 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11678.5 down by -119.4 points or by -1.01 %.

On the global front, the sell-off in equity markets continued. In the US, the Wall Street reversed earlier gains on Wednesday to end lower for the fifth straight session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 124 points, the S&P 500 dropped 12 points, while the Nasdaq Composite added 15 points.

Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – YES Bank Ltd. 149229469.00, Tata Motors Ltd. 47605927.00, State Bank of India 43915281.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd. 18615730.00, GAIL (India) Ltd. 18072839.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 188.67 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 40592.34 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 490218 with a total turnover of Rs. 37492.30 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 1814651 with a total turnover of Rs. 115902.29 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 23732930 with a total turnover of Rs. 1690236.59 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 902170 with a total turnover of Rs. 63178.51 Crore.

The FIIs on 26/02/2020 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5723.78 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 698.00 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 7561.99 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 758.10 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -1838.21 Crore and Rs. -60.10.
