Indian benchmark indices are likely to open on a positive note on September 15, tracking firm cues from GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 23,531 in early trade.

The domestic market had witnessed a volatile session on September 11, with the benchmark indices recovering sharply from the day’s lows to close marginally lower. Selling pressure was particularly visible across metal, realty and PSU banking stocks.

The Indian financial markets were closed on Monday for the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 74781.76 down by -120.83 points or by -0.16 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23398.1 down by -79.7 points or by -0.34 %.

On the global front, Asia-Pacific markets declined as traders weighed the inflation outlook and the possibility of a rate hike by the US Federal Reserve in this week’s policy meeting amid firm oil prices. The Hang Seng and Kospi fell 0.62 per cent and 0.32 per cent, respectively.

Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 0.29 per cent and 0.48 per cent lower, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite ended 0.56 per cent down.
